A place for those who know what it's like to struggle. We hope to help reduce the stigma around mental health issues.
Hi, my name is Jen and I'm a television reporter/anchor and writer/actor in Cincinnati, OH. Although I am doing very well now, throughout my life I’ve battled general anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ADHD and an autoimmune disorder. I lost my brother, who battled schizophrenia, to suicide, and others in my family have experienced mental health issues as well. I’ve tried to be open with viewers about some of my personal struggles, but there’s never enough time on television news, so I wanted to create a place where the conversations can continue, and topics can be explored that don’t always make the headlines.
Some might think that anxiety and tv or performing don’t mix, and they’d be right some of the time! I’ve had some difficult moments throughout my careers. However, performing has always been the thing that has helped my anxiety and depression the most. Maybe because it gets me out of my head for a while. I’ve also come to understand that performing allows me to connect with people in ways I can’t otherwise. So does writing, and that's what I'll do here, and I will invite you and others to do as well.
Here,I hope to share my stories of struggle and healing (I'm doing GREAT now!) so that maybe I can help someone else. I also hope to post information from the many books, articles, podcasts I am constantly consuming and learning from. I will share stories, tips, resources and more. Maybe seeing my stories, and those of others, might help someone out there not feel so alone in their struggles. You are not alone, there are people that understand, and there are people that can help.
